About Me
My name is Ms. Whitaker, and I am Starrett's counselor. The 2019-2020 school year marks my 20th year in education, all with AISD. This is my 10th year at Starrett. I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Texas Wesleyan University and a M.Ed. in School Counseling from The University of North Texas. I'm proud to say I am a product of AISD myself! I love working with our students, staff, and parents. My main goal as a school counselor is not only to help students be successful at the elementary level but also to assist them in laying a firm foundation for future success. Below is a more detailed description of what I do. I love my job as counselor, and I love being a Starrett Stallion!

What I Do |
Counseling
I work with every Starrett student throughout the school year in order to promote success for each child. I see all students for classroom guidance once a six weeks. This entails a 30 minute lesson on various life skills and career education. In addition, I see a number of students for individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention. For more details, please click here. PBIS I am a member of our Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports Team. We work together to facilitate a school-wide plan for incorporating positive intervention strategies in order to promote a more positive learning environment for our students. Testing I am the Testing Coordinator for our building. I am responsible for accurate preparation and administration of both district and state tests. This includes CoGAT, Curriculum Assessments, Benchmarks, STAAR, ITBS, STAAR, and End of Year Assessments. My Guidance Tech, Mrs. Spradlin, assists me with this, and I couldn't do it without her! March, April, and May are our busiest testing months. Please click on the Testing link for more information. Other I am part of the Starrett Leadership Team and work closely with them to create the most safe, productive, and positive learning environment possible for our students and staff. I also assist in various ways with our Special Education team, 504 committee, and at-risk students. |
